Thryvwell currently works with adolescents ages 12 to 17 who meet clinical criteria for GLP-1 therapy. Our clinicians conduct a thorough evaluation during the intake visit to determine eligibility based on BMI, health history, and clinical guidelines.
The primary eligibility criteria are age 12 to 17 and a BMI at or above the 95th percentile for age and sex (clinical obesity). Adolescents with a BMI at or above the 85th percentile may also qualify if they have a weight-related condition such as prediabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, or sleep apnea. The absence of contraindications to GLP-1 therapy is also required. You can use the eligibility checker on our Get Started page for a quick initial assessment. Final eligibility is confirmed by a Thryvwell clinician at the intake visit.
No. While many families come to us through a pediatrician referral, self-referrals are welcome. We will coordinate with your child's primary care provider with your permission and keep them informed throughout the program.
Many children with obesity also have related conditions such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, or elevated cholesterol. Our clinicians are experienced in managing these alongside GLP-1 therapy. Certain conditions may affect eligibility and this is assessed individually at the intake visit.
Yes. The $199 intake visit is the first step for all new patients. It allows our clinician to review your child's health history, order baseline labs, and determine whether GLP-1 therapy is appropriate before building a personalized care plan. This visit is conducted via telehealth with no travel required.
A Thryvwell clinician conducts a comprehensive telehealth evaluation covering your child's health history, current weight and growth trends, relevant labs, family goals, and a review of whether GLP-1 therapy is clinically appropriate. You will leave the visit with a clear plan and next steps.
It helps to have your child's most recent lab work (if available), a list of any current medications, your insurance card, and a note of any questions you want to ask. Our team will send a preparation checklist after you schedule.
The intake visit typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. It is conducted via secure video call and can be done from home.
Thryvwell prescribes brand-name, FDA-approved GLP-1 medications only — never compounded or unapproved formulations. Current options for adolescents include Wegovy (semaglutide) and Saxenda (liraglutide). The specific medication and dose are determined by your child's clinician based on their health profile, age, and current clinical guidelines.
GLP-1 medication is prescribed and shipped directly to your home. No pharmacy trips required. Medication costs are billed separately from the monthly program fee. We help every family understand their coverage options and identify available savings at the intake visit.
GLP-1 medications are intended as a short-term clinical bridge, not a permanent solution. Most patients are on the active medication phase for 9 to 18 months, depending on their goals and clinical response. Our goal is to use medication to create the window for lasting lifestyle change, then taper responsibly.
Side effect monitoring is built into every Thryvwell plan. The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications (nausea, reduced appetite, and mild GI discomfort) are typically manageable with dose adjustments. Your care team is available between visits, and all concerns are addressed promptly. We never adjust or stop medication without a clinical plan.
Wegovy (semaglutide) is FDA-approved for adolescents aged 12 and older with obesity. Thryvwell's clinical protocols include monthly lab monitoring, growth tracking, and muscle mass assessment specifically to manage the risks associated with GLP-1 use in adolescents. Our medical advisory board has shaped these protocols to reflect the highest standard of pediatric care.
The $299 monthly program fee covers all clinical services, coaching, monthly check-ins, and lab reviews. Medication is prescribed and shipped directly to your home but is billed separately. Medication cost depends on your insurance coverage and the specific medication prescribed. We help every family understand their options at the intake visit.

Thryvwell is currently working through the insurance credentialing process. In the meantime, we offer transparent self-pay pricing and provide superbills for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of telehealth and behavioral health services. We will help you understand your specific options at the intake visit.
Yes. Thryvwell services are generally eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement as qualified medical expenses. We recommend confirming with your plan administrator.
There are no required long-term contracts. That said, our clinical team recommends a minimum of 3 months for meaningful, lasting results. Most families see the greatest progress when they complete the initial program phase before transitioning to maintenance. You can pause or cancel at any time, though we will always work with you on a safe tapering plan before stopping medication.
You can pause your Monthly Care subscription at any time. Your care team will work with you on a safe plan for any medication tapering before pausing. We never abruptly stop medication without a clinical plan in place.
Every Thryvwell patient receives monthly clinical check-ins, regular dietitian sessions, monthly lab reviews, and written clinical summaries shared with their referring pediatrician. We track weight, growth, muscle mass, and lab values throughout the program. Your child's care team is available between visits for any concerns.
Our goal is for your child to maintain their results independently. As the medication is tapered, your care team transitions focus to long-term habit reinforcement, nutrition plan and coaching, and regular check-ins. Many families continue with a reduced-cost maintenance plan. We never abruptly stop medication without a clinical plan in place.
Yes. With your permission, Thryvwell sends written clinical summaries and lab results directly to your child's primary care provider after every visit. We work alongside your pediatrician, not instead of them.
